In certain circumstances during the claims process, Route may request an online notarized incident statement. Read on to learn more about notarization, and why it may be required.
What is notarization?
According to the National Notary Association, “Notarization is the official fraud-deterrent process that assures the parties of a transaction that a document is authentic, and can be trusted.”
In other words, it’s a way for Route to ensure that we’re helping the right person by verifying your identity, and that what you’ve written in the incident statement is true, by affirming the statement in the presence of a notary.
We use the process to help protect consumers from forgers, identity thieves, and other means of exploitation.
What is a notarized incident statement?
In this case, it is a formal statement about what happened to your Route-protected order, which is covered under our policy for lost, stolen, or damaged items. It’s your official proof of loss.
Why does Route need a notarized statement?
In short: The statement formalizes the facts of your claim, provides Route additional detail, and it verifies your identity as the correct person entitled to a resolution.
In legalese: To avoid indemnifying the wrong party, effecting subrogation against responsible parties, and to comply with OFAC sanctions, Route may use a notarized statement to verify the customer is the person or entity entitled to payment or replacement.
