The Route mobile app offers a seamless way to keep track of all of your orders in one place. That means you can shop anywhere (even Amazon) and track it with Route. And, it’s completely free.
Wondering how it all works? Simply put, we turn the same information you get from your shipping carrier into a dynamic tracking experience, full of maps, helpful visuals, timely notifications, and more. (Learn more about tracking with the app.)
Sounds cool, but is it safe? Absolutely. Here’s what you need to know.
Why does Route need access to my email to track orders?
To enable automatic tracking, Route requires read-only access to any email accounts you wish to sync with our app. Once we have your permission, we parse your emails to collect only information on your online purchases, including tracking numbers, shipping carriers, and the items in your order.
We cannot send emails as you, delete emails from your account, or otherwise act on your behalf. We solely access emails related to order confirmation, tracking information, or shipment confirmation to show everything you order in one place.
What happens when I sync my Amazon account with the Route mobile app?
We’ll use your connection to Amazon to show you your tracking information every time you order something new from Amazon. You’ll be able to see all your orders and when they will get to you at a glance. We will not have access to things like your saved addresses, credit card numbers, gift card balance, or other Amazon account information.
Do you have access to my email or Amazon passwords?
No! When you connect Route to your email or Amazon accounts, Route never sees or stores your email or Amazon passwords. We use OAuth to establish a secure connection with both. You can revoke our permissions any time.
Ok, but do I have to sync my email and Amazon accounts to use the Route app?
No! You can still use the app by adding all your tracking numbers manually.
Do I have to sync my email in order to file a claim for a Route-protected order? What about to track a package from a brand or retailer that partners with Route?
No! When you download the Route mobile app, you can skip connecting your email. Once you’ve signed up and verified your email address, we’ll only show you any orders that you’ve placed with Route partner brands. You can use the app to track your package or file a claim if you have an issue. If you decide you’d like to see everything you order in the app, you can sync your email or Amazon account at any time.
How is my order information used?
We use the details of your order to give a real-time view of where all of your packages are. We can also proactively alert you to shipping updates when you opt in to our push notifications.
We employ multiple layers of security to protect and secure customer data. Your data is always encrypted in storage and when transmitted over the internet. Your information is only used as outlined in Route’s Privacy Policy.
Do you sell my data to third parties?
No, Route never shares or sells any user data to third parties.
How do you protect my data?
Protecting your data is our number one priority. Here’s how we do it:
- We encrypt your data at 3 levels: HTTPS (over the internet), on disk, and application encryption. This keeps internet connections secure and prevents unauthorized viewing or modification of the information.
- Our application encryption keys are frequently rotated. This protects against someone trying to guess the keys and obtain unauthorized access.
- We never share or sell any user data to third parties
- We use multi-factor authentication to protect our internal systems
Route has a security white paper with everything you need to know about just how seriously we take data protection.
How can I make a privacy request regarding my data?
You can use this form to download a complete report of your personal data across our systems, Package up your data and send it to a desired recipient, update any inaccuracy you've found in our systems, or delete your personal data found in our systems
Anything else?
In addition to following our own privacy and security policies, Route implements security and privacy requirements from email service providers, such as Gmail, that the Route app connects to on your behalf.
Beyond the app, we do a lot to keep our brand and merchant partners safe, too. Route has a SOC2 Type 1 attestation, an independent audit of our security conducted by a third party accounting firm.
